Author and Retired California Educator Calls Artists to Illustrate Inspirational Quotes in New T-Shirt Contest
Maplewood, New Jersey (PRWEB) September 5, 2008 -- New and experienced artists and designers who create a T-shirt graphic to illustrate one or more quotes from the new release, Life Lessons from My Father: Things Dad Used to Say could win up to $250. The contest launched by the book's author, Dr. John Fouts Gardenhire kicks off on September 5 and is open to contestants of all ages until September 30. 10 winners will be announced on October 5.
Life Lessons from My Father: Things Dad Used to Say is a collection of inspirational words Dr. Gardenhire's father shared with him and his family over the course of his life. It is a welcome change from the slick, cinematic drama of modern times. So much can be gained and lost in the blitz of electronic media, but the way that Dr. Gardenhire honors the profound storytelling tradition of his father's teachings breeds an enveloping manual of instruction that nourishes the heart, soul, and mind.
"I see all of these cool T-shirts. I want my father's words to translate on that canvas too," said Dr. John Fouts Gardenhire. "The T-shirt contest is another way to communicate and open his wisdom to every one. I especially want to see the talent from the major areas of my life, but all talent from all ages is definitely welcomed." Dr. Gardenhire is a retired educator who dedicated his life to his students for over 40 years. He began an exciting, fulfilling career as a teacher in Seattle's suburb, Renton, and San Francisco's suburb, Novato. He then transitioned to the halls of higher education at one of the nation's finest traditions -- historically black colleges and universities. He served as Chairman of the English Department of Laney College in Oakland and a celebrated five-time selectee as Teacher of the Year.
To enter Dr. Gardenhire's T-shirt contest, purchase a copy of Life Lessons from My Father: Things Dad Used to Say. The book can be purchased online at the site (http://www.thingsdadusedtosay.com), Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Contestants should choose one or more quotes from the book and create a graphic representation of what the quotes mean to them. T-shirt artwork entered in the contest should include both the quote and the visual design. 10 winners will be selected on September 30. The grand prize winner will receive $250. The top three runner-ups will receive $50 each; remaining winners will have their designs posted on the website.
