The Ultimate Healing Center: New York City

When most people graduate from college, they usually have a plan for what they're going to do next. After I graduated college, I took a huge leap of faith and journeyed to the Big Apple, where I hoped it would be revealed to me what I was meant to do next. I knew what my interests were, but even after four years of college I had no idea how I was supposed to channel those interests into a career. When I first developed my fascination with energy healing, New York City presented me with a wealth of learning opportunities. Not only was I in a place to learn about and study some of the healing modalities I was intrigued by, I could also easily experience each one of them myself.

Energy healing is a fairly broad term that can encompass any form of healing that manipulates, restores or balances energy flow in the body. It may include the laying on of hands, Reiki, polarity therapy and other subtle forms of energy healing. Typically, energy work is conducted one-on-one, and in many approaches, the emphasis is placed on solving emotional or spiritual problems rather than a specific physical problem. Energy workers often combine two or more healing modalities in their practices, including aromatherapy, craniosacral therapy, massage, spiritual counseling, acupressure and so forth.

As my first few months in NYC came and went, I studied and experienced many of these techniques, but I would never have guessed my favorite would be one I had never heard of before: Body Talk. New York City is home to this incredible community of people who have formed The BodyTalk Center. While the premise of the center is Body Talk, it plays host to a number of other events, gatherings, classes and workshops that encompass everything from yoga and dance to Thera-Bands and the Franklin Method. From the minute I set foot into their new space, I knew I would be spending a lot of time at The BodyTalk Center.

When it comes to just about any type of healing center, New York City has it all, but I found pretty much everything I was looking for at The BodyTalk Center. I was thrilled to be able to learn the technique from practitioners who are at the very forefront of the modality, at least in the United States. My teachers were exceptional and my experiences with BodyTalk, both in healing others and healing myself, has been something that will forever change my life. Because I discovered Body Talk, New York City certainly fulfilled my expectations of revealing to me a craft that I was instantly passionate about and excited to become a part of. What makes it even better, is that Body Talk is still so new, which is why I'm glad to have gotten involved just as this revolutionary system is beginning to take off.
